From
the early 1920's to 1950 St Luc was a very popular resort with the British.
They came to take the clear mountain air and walk along the many marked
path's. Then in the late 1950's skiing became more popular and peoples
interest in the mountains changed to the purpose built resorts with easy
skiing and access. In 1995 the funicular was built and St Luc again began
to attract visitors but not the British, most of the visitors where from
Geneva, Belgium, Holland, Denmark many of whom have fallen in love with
St Luc and built holiday chalets here. |

| It is inevitable that more British will visit St Luc, if like us you are fed up with the impersonality of big resorts then St Luc will appeal if on the other hand you are looking for lots of Apres ski, music, crowded slopes designer boutiques then St Luc will not appeal. The centre of St Luc is an old typically Swiss village with picture post card old buildings perched on stilts to prevent rodent infestation, There are just enough shops:- a Boulangerie, well stocked supermarket, paper shop, two ski shops and two gift shops. | |
| There
are about 80 permanent residents of St Luc so the village has a permanent
life and soul. The locals speak French and most have a good command of the
English language, they are very friendly and seem particularly anxious to
attract "The English" back to St Luc. Our chalet is situated about 10 minutes walk from the village centre and the walk to the village for croissants is a delight, interjected with several well meant "Bon jour's" and at every corner, a different and breath taking view as more of the valley comes into view, then your first glimpse of the majestic 'Matterhorn'. St Luc has an observatory and there is good reason why St Luc was chosen for an observatory. It is because it has the highest number of clear nights and the clearest atmosphere. When walking back to our chalet at night, guests stop at almost every few meters to gaze at the surrounding mountains and the incredibly starry sky. St Luc is aptly named "La Staion des etoiles"....
